The Port Adelaide 1977 Premiers Mug commemorates one of the most significant victories in the club’s SANFL history. After twelve seasons without a premiership, the Magpies returned to the summit in dramatic fashion.

The 1977 SANFL Grand Final was played on Saturday, 24 September at Football Park. In front of 56,717 spectators, Port Adelaide defeated Glenelg 17.11 (113) to 16.9 (105) in a high-scoring and fiercely contested decider.

Under coach John Cahill and captain Russell Ebert, the victory marked Port Adelaide’s 24th SANFL premiership and signalled the beginning of a powerful new era for the club.

The match was defined by relentless pressure, attacking football, and a final quarter that tested composure. When the siren sounded, the drought was over.
