Description
West Adelaide Football Club : Est 1892 This beautiful representation of the Football Club from the Western part of the City and localized Western Adelaide suburbs now finds its home at Richmond Oval. West Adelaide were a fierce and recognised force in the great Australian Game. in the early 1900’s the club claimed the Champions of Australia crown with it’s definitive victories over VFL champions Carlton in 1908 and Essendon in 1911.
West Adelaide through out it’s history were a topsy turvey club, missing many opportunities to take out the South Australian Championship by narrow margins.
The Club was known as the Bottle Tops for a period after 1911 when the West End Brewery began using the club colours on their beer product after the 1911 Premiership win.
West Adelaide has also been known as the Blood ‘n’ Tars, The Bloods, The Bloodhounds and the Wolves over the 20th Century. A club that produced some of the greatest Footballers over the years.
